How Texan I Am

Hat tip (of a ten-gallon, apparently) to Alan for this:

You Are 76% Texas

Well, knock me down and steal muh teeth! You're pretty darn Texan.

I got a 68. I think it's because I add garlic to everything, not just bbq sauce. :) And I'd rather have a Porsche than a truck, but I did learn to shoot before I learned to drive.

This was fun, but I don't know...Sounds like the questions were made up by a wannabe Texan. I'm 6th generation myself--the first of my family arrived in 1836, and the last straggled in in 1859. And yet, I scored a 36 on this test!

I got a 24 and this was the tagline You're as welcome in Texas as a skunk at a lawn party.

Snicker. Good thing I'm not fixin to come to Texas soon.

John, a 36?! Wow...

The only ones I didn't check were:

You've been to a festival for a fruit, vegetable, grain, or animal. (No, but we've considered going to the peach one in Weatherford)

You carry your groceries home in a sack. (sorry; it's a BAG)

You don't consider people from Austin to be Texans. (Um...love me some Willie!)

You rather see a high school football game than a professional hockey game any night of the week. (Hey, I like Friday Night Lights just fine, but I'm all about hockey)

It was a big deal when Wal-mart opened in your town. (Um...no)

There is no dinner. There is only lunch and supper. (Funny...AUDRA says "supper"; I say "dinner" AND "supper" interchangeably)

You use A/C 12 months a year. (I don't think ANYBODY could seriously say this)

Aaaaand...now I'm 72%. Huh.

Mimi, I got the same message and I live here! But then I don't own a gun, I hate deer meat, and find both DQ and McDonalds equally distasteful.

Alan, don't fret about being from Oklahoma. There are a lot of good things to come out of Oklahoma.

Interstate 35 comes to mind.

Meh . . . . like John, my family on both sides have been in Texas since the 1850's, and I got a low score, too.

Like David, I prefer hockey over football any day. I couldn't say that I've ever been to a festival named for fruit, veggie, or animal . . . . although maybe the Fort Worth Stock Show should count?

I think growing up in the DFW area instead of a small town skewed the percentage. Ah, well.

Know what? I think you're on to something, Mary...I think the reason I scored so high is because, even though I am an admitted city boy, I've got enough country, small-town roots to actually have those things apply.

Guns, huge belt buckles and cowboy boots (with jeans!) with the suit jacket and tie, DQ, eatin' rattlesnake and deer...had I not had that influence from my dad's side of the family, my score would have been a LOT lower, too.

The small-town caricature being used as a litmus test of Texas-ness is probably disingenuous, but I got a kick out of how well it fit me...
