The Jesus Prayer

Fr. Tom Hopko has said that there are people who are interested in the Jesus Prayer who are neither interested in Jesus nor prayer.

May we never trade in ends for means.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner.
Señor Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, ten piedad de mí, el pecador.
Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱέ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν.

Sobering words.

Kyrie, eleison.

As a newly-Orthodox, I have barely even begun to learn how to pray, but I very quickly learned how little I used to pray.

How true that rings for me. I haven't yet learned to pray, but I've learned that I never knew how.

Hello! I went to my first Divine Liturgy on Saturday, and found it beautiful. I am interested in the Jesus Prayer, Jesus, and prayer.

Perhaps those who are becoming interested in it will want to know where it comes from, and the treasures of Orthodoxy will become apparent to them.

Hello, Yvonne!

Glad to hear you went and are looking at Orthodox Christianity. You're welcome to post here as you like. God bless.
